Coffee Lovers Protein Shake-Stravaganza

Is there anything better than a good mug of coffee to start your day? 

Yes. Our Coffee Lovers Protein Shake for one. 

This recipe uses cold brewed coffee. If you haven’t cold brewed coffee before, it’s a delightfully low-effort way to brew, although it takes between 12 and 24 hours to steep.  

Cold brewing makes for a beautifully smooth coffee that’s great for iced coffee, smoothies or coffee protein shakes. It avoids many of the harsher acidic flavours that come of coffee that don't always suit this type of drink. It's also a really good way of making stale coffee grounds utterly delicious again. Once it’s finished brewing you can even heat it up to make a hot cup of coffee. 

You could try this with our Cookies & Cream Protein powder, but I’ve found the chocolate protein powder melds better with the bitterness of the coffee. 

Choose the type of milk that suits your goals or diet. Almond milk works quite nicely with coffee if you follow a vegan diet. Otherwise, skimmed milk will be the lowest in calories but full fat will be absolutely to die for. 

For an even thicker smoothie blending half a banana into the mix is the way to go (although I'm a big fan of Greek yoghurt too). Freezing it the night before will give an even creamier texture.

If you want to get really decadent then whipped cream is an absolute must. If you want to play the healthy game skip it.


  • One Scoop of Oats and Whey Protein Powder - Chocolate Creme Flavour
  • ½ Cup of Milk 
  • ½ Cup of cold brewed coffee
  • 1 ½ cups of cubed ice.
  • Half a frozen Banana (Optional)


  • A hearty squirt of Whipped Cream (Optional)
  • Half an Oatein Low Sugar Protein Bar - Cookies & Cream or Dark Chocolate flavour
  • Choc Nibs (We think dark choc works best!)


  1. Blend the Oats and Whey Powder, milk and coffee together, if you want an even creamier recipe, add the banana. If you don’t have a blender just shake it vigorously in a good quality shaker.
  2. Slowly add ice to blender and process until creamy. If you don’t have a blender use about half as much ice and give it a thorough shake. 
  3. Decant into the most stylish glass mug you own, or enjoy it in the shaker.
  4. Top with half an Oatein Low Sugar Protein bar, a big squirt of whipped cream and chocolate nibs. 
  5. Enjoy your incredible cup of coffee. Yowzers. 

For Cold Brew Coffee

  1. The easiest way to make cold brew coffee is with a cafetiere/french press. Simply pop a few teaspoons of coarsely ground coffee in the cafetiere and pour cold water over the coffee grounds.
  2. Steep the coffee grounds in the water for around 24 hours. 12 hours can work, but the results usually aren’t all that good. 
  3. The coffee can be steeped in the fridge, which can help maintain freshness. The nice thing about cold brew coffee is that it oxidises much less rapidly, preventing that horrible stale taste that occurs when you leave normal coffee out for too long.
