Fortunately, it’s easy enough to make DIY protein cookies if you have the right ingredients and a bit of time to throw everything together. By combining sweet treats and protein content, you’ll be enjoying some delicious that also helps to push you towards your fitness goals.

We’ve got a few recipes in mind for you to test out - so take a look below. Remember: if you’d rather ditch the effort and enjoy a pre-made protein cookie that is crafted specifically to help maximise your gym goals, cut down on sugar and load up on taste, we’ve got you covered.

But if you’re not near any Oatein stockists and you want cookies now, don’t worry - we’re here for you too.

Idea 1: 4 Ingredient Protein Cookies

What you’ll need:

  • 120 grams of smooth peanut butter
  • 2 scoops/40-ish grams of protein powder - which is where we’d obviously recommend our excellent Succeed Dynamic Vanilla Protein.
  • 60-80 grams of coconut sugar or any other granulated sweetener. (If you’re risking it with high sugar, use brown sugar).
  • 1 large egg.

How to make them:

  • Combine all of the ingredients in a large mixing bowl.
  • Mix everything together with a wooden spoon or similar tool.
  • Once the ingredients have formed a dough, detach 12 into smaller cookie dough balls.
  • Place onto a lined and greased baking sheet spaced evenly from one another.
  • Put them into a pre-heated oven at 180C for 10-15 minutes, checking frequently.

Turning them into vegan protein cookies:

  • Swap the protein powder for a vegan variant, then use a “seed egg” to replace the egg. To do this, combine either 3 tablespoons of chia seeds or flax seeds with ⅓ of a mug of water. Whisk it together thoroughly, let it rest and then check it - it will form an ‘eggy’ consistency. Once it’s ready, pour it into the mix like you would with an egg.

Idea 2: Tasty Oat Vegan Protein Cookies

Don’t have any protein powder to hand? Don’t sweat it. As the name suggests, we’re a big fan of Oats here at Oatein - so let’s put some oats to work in the form of oat flour to create moreish vegan protein cookies.

What you’ll need:

  • 2 ripe bananas
  • 100g oat flour
  • 25g of mixed seeds - pumpkin works best
  • 60g of nut butter - we like almond for this
  • Flax or chia egg (see point above)
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp baking powder

How to make them:

  • Mash your bananas roughly and add to a bowl
  • Combine with the peanut butter
  • Stir in the flax/chia egg
  • Add in the syrup and vanilla extract
  • Stir these in, then add the oat flour and baking powder and fold them in
  • Fold your seeds into the dough
  • Once the dough is mixed, put them in the fridge or freezer to firm them up
  • When ready to bake, create dough balls as before and then cook at 180C for 15-20 minutes, checking regularly.

Idea 3: No-Bake Date Protein Cookies

So we’ve covered a general and vegan cookie option. Now let’s get into the silly ideas and discover the most protein-packed, hassle-free DIY cookie you can make at home.  You don’t even need to use the oven.

What you’ll need:

  • 100g rolled oats
  • 200g chocolate protein powder
  • 4-6 pitted Medjool dates
  • 60g smooth peanut butter
  • 40g mixed unsalted nuts
  • 60g coconut oil

How to make them:

  • Mix the oats, powder and peanuts in a large bowl
  • Use a blender to process your peanut butter, oil, dates and 170g of water together
  • Add that wet mix to your dry ingredients and mix by hand into a thick batter
  • Top up any dry areas of the dough with a few tablespoons of water
  • Scoop this mix into balls, flatten them out on a baking sheet and then put them in the fridge. Once they set, they’re ready.
